RNW Media’s team visited Nairobi, Kenya, for a week of collaboration, research, and partnership-building. From examining anti-gender narratives to exploring mental health in media and reporting on technology-facilitated gender-based violence, the week was filled with meaningful exchanges, new insights, and strengthened partnerships across East Africa.

RNW Media joined global delegates at the Media20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, where the Johannesburg Declaration was launched to strengthen independent journalism and safeguard information integrity. Building on this momentum, we also took part in CTRL+J, a South-to-South dialogue fostering solidarity and inclusion in the future of media.

The Media Council of Kenya and RNTC (Radio Netherlands Training Centre) have signed a pact to establish a Regional Media Skills Development and Innovation Hub in Kenya.

An anti-immigration protest in The Hague escalated into violent clashes on the A12, leaving police and journalists injured. With 37 arrests and political leaders condemning the violence, the unrest raises urgent questions about immigration, safety, and press freedom ahead of the elections.

RNW Media has launched the Digital Transformation Assessment, a free tool that helps independent media navigate digital and organisational change. Each participant receives a personalised report with a Digital Transformation Score, insights, and practical next steps to drive lasting transformation.

Since 7 October 2023, over 200 Palestinian journalists have been killed, as independent voices are systematically silenced. RNW Media stands with these journalists, providing training, resources, and support to protect those who bear witness to the truth.

As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to reshape the media landscape, journalism is confronted with the critical challenge of upholding the principles of humanity, inclusivity, and gender justice. In response, RNW Media, in collaboration with Campaign for Good and Yayasan Gemilang Sehat Indonesia, convened a seminar titled “Inclusive and Gender-Sensitive Journalism in the AI Era for SRHR Issues”

As part of our International Women’s Day campaign, we launched the digital coffee table book, Under Attack, Still We Rise! – a tribute to women media makers who, despite facing relentless online violence, continue to speak out, shape narratives and defend press freedom worldwide.

AlgoSpeak is coded language used to avoid being flagged or blocked by algorithms on social media, search engines, and other digital platforms. Co-created with partners, our website documents these creative workarounds.
