We call on the Iranian regime to restore full internet and communications access immediately and end attacks on journalists, media makers, and citizens. We urge our followers, civil society, tech platforms, governments, and international bodies to defend the right to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers: speak out, amplify verified reporting, protect public interest digital media, and demand accountability.
Venezuela has entered a sudden imposed political transition after the capture of President Nicolás Maduro, following the U.S. invasion on January 3rd, 2026. This moment of uncertainty underscores just how vital independent media are for citizens’ access to accurate and reliable information.
Short video platforms thrive on emotion. The algorithm doesn’t care what you feel, only that you feel something strongly enough to stop scrolling. Anger, lust, jealousy, shock are the currencies of attention.
RNW Media introduces a new series, Digital Media Shakers, where we highlight bold voices shaping public interest and independent media. Next up: Wahyu Dhyatmika, CEO of Tempo Digital and Chairperson of AMSI (Indonesian Cyber Media Association).
In this Digital Media Shakers edition, we speak with Dr. Noemi Mena Montes, researcher and journalist specialising in migration narratives. From her early work in radio amplifying unheard voices to her current research on media framing and political discourse, she has dedicated her career to reshaping how migration is understood.
RNW Media is concerned with the refusal of very large online platforms and search engines, namely Meta, TikTok, X, and Google, to engage in debate at the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of the Dutch parliament.
Starting this month, October 2025, Meta is prohibiting all political and social issue advertising across the European Economic Area (EEA). For NGOs like ours, this is more than just another update in the advertising rulebook, it’s a big shift.
RNW Media’s team visited Nairobi, Kenya, for a week of collaboration, research, and partnership-building. From examining anti-gender narratives to exploring mental health in media and reporting on technology-facilitated gender-based violence, the week was filled with meaningful exchanges, new insights, and strengthened partnerships across East Africa.
RNW Media joined global delegates at the Media20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, where the Johannesburg Declaration was launched to strengthen independent journalism and safeguard information integrity. Building on this momentum, we also took part in CTRL+J, a South-to-South dialogue fostering solidarity and inclusion in the future of media.
