We are looking for a Data Analyst Intern

Purpose of the internship
The Data Analyst Internship at RNW Media offers an opportunity to contribute to creating a safe, reliable, and inclusive information ecosystem. As a member of the Impact Team, the intern will play a vital role in analyzing social media and website performance, monitoring online narratives, and supporting data-driven impact evaluation. The position is designed to enhance content strategies, improve audience engagement, and contribute to global conversations on key issues such as democracy, human rights, and media viability. This internship combines hands-on experience with tools like Google Analytics, Looker Studio, and Hootsuite, alongside meaningful work addressing pressing global challenges.
You will be contributing to:
Social Media Analytics
- Track and analyze engagement metrics (e.g., reach, impressions, views, interactions, and follower growth) across platforms among our own and our partners.
- Identify trends and opportunities to improve content strategies and audience engagement.
- Align with Digital Content Manager and Marketing Manager from the positioning and visibility team to develop a measurement and evaluation matrix, benchmarking, target setting and regularly share the content performance reports.
Website Analytics
- Use tools like Google Analytics and Looker Studio to track website traffic, user behaviour, and conversion metrics and identify areas to improve website performance.
- Collaborate with the Digital Product Manager to improve SEO and user experience.
- Align with Digital Content Manager and Marketing Manager from the positioning and visibility team to develop a measurement and evaluation matrix, benchmarking, target setting and regularly share the content performance reports.
Social Listening
- Monitor online conversations about the related topics using tools like Hootsuite.
- Analyze sentiment, trending keywords, and audience feedback and summarize findings to inform campaign strategies.
- Support counter narrative (messaging) campaigns scheduled in 2025 utilizing social listening tools to monitor the narrative shift/change and support Digital Media Expert to develop a counter narrative (messaging) solution.
Impact and Learning Support
- Create dashboards and visual reports to showcase the impact of digital campaigns.
- Provide data insights for evaluations and learning processes within the PMEL framework.
- Support ad-hoc analyses and recommendations for ongoing projects.
Deliverables
- Organizational Strategy: Co-draft an organizational strategy and action plan for data analysis, including actionable next steps and recommendations.
- Alignment with Global and National Issues: Ensure the strategy aligns with key themes that RNW Media works on such as media viability, democracy, human rights, gender, migration and mis/dis/mal-information.
- Weekly Updates: Provide weekly summaries of key metrics and insights from social media, website analytics, and social listening, illustrating how these insights contribute to addressing pressing global issues or resonate with audience narratives.
- Dashboards and Visualizations: Create engaging dashboards or visualizations to support monitoring and evaluation reporting, with examples that demonstrate the impact of RNW Media’s work.
- Annual Reporting Support: Assist with annual data collection and reporting for the management report and organizational annual report, integrating meaningful impact stories that connect RNW Media’s impact to broader global challenges.
Knowledge & Experience
- Currently enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, a Bachelor’s program in a field that provides foundational skills in data analysis, statistics, and relevant tools or programming languages. (if recent graduate: you have a residence permit where labour is freely permitted.)
- Technical Skills: Basic familiarity with analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Hootsuite, Tableau, or Looker Studio, with a willingness to learn and explore these platforms further.
- Social Media Awareness: Understanding or interest in social media metrics and social listening tools.
- Data Skills: A foundational ability to analyze and visualize data, with enthusiasm to develop these skills further.
- Digital Engagement: Interest in digital engagement, impact measurement, and learning processes.
- AI Literacy: Awareness of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot) and openness to using them for enhancing analytics and reporting tasks.
- Attributes: A curious and analytical mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate findings in a clear and approachable manner.
