We are looking for a Policy Advisor Media & Human Rights (Maternity Coverage, 7 month contract)

Purpose of the position
The Policy Advisor Media & Human Rights will contribute to and enhance organisation’s strategic initiatives and positioning by leading on the implementation of its Advocacy Framework in collaboration with multiple teams. This role will involve developing compelling advocacy material, conducting stakeholder and policy mapping, and contributing to top account engagement on the governmental and EU level.
The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of strategic and policy frameworks within the Netherlands and the European Union on the intersection of AI and tech, digital media and human rights. You need to be a skilful advocacy expert who can drive our advocacy objectives and provide deep insight for other organisational priorities. Additionally, you are adept at creating content for strategic positioning of the organisation in various influential networks.
Responsibilities
- Implement the Organisational Advocacy Strategy: Lead the execution of the Organizational Advocacy Strategy by developing and promoting key policy positions, coordinating activities and engaging stakeholders, and ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and objectives.
- Develop Value Propositions, Position Papers, Reports, Issue Briefs and Other Advocacy Material: Based on insight on global trends and latest developments, create compelling advocacy material that aligns with the organisation’s strategic objectives and priorities as detailed in the Organisational Advocacy Framework.
- Policy Mapping & Positioning Advice: Conduct policy research to continuously identify key entries and discussions, update positioning and contribute to relevant discussions within the organisation and advocacy networks. Provide strategic insights to improve engagement with stakeholders.
- Representation within key networks and spaces: Develop and provide high-quality content targeting key networks such as Partos, GFMD, etc. Represent RNW Media’s positioning and contribute to broader mediatory platforms such as BMO. Ensure that the content reflects organisational values and drives advocacy objectives.
- Top Account Management: Work closely with the Business and Partnership Development (BPD) team to support top account management. Assist in the identification, negotiation, and management of partnerships.
- Support Creation of Strategic Evidence for Advocacy (research) & Disseminate Within Networks: ensure cohesion between evidence produced within the organisation and the pre-defined advocacy objectives.
- Other tasks assigned by the Director of Media Innovation.
Knowledge & Experience
- Knowledge of relevant networks, Dutch and EU policies and legislation on topics related to media freedom, media viability, freedom of expression, AI applications in media and humanity is a must;
- Knowledge of advocacy networks and mechanisms within the EU;
- Strong analytical and writing skills with experience in developing position papers, reports, and other advocacy content;
- Proven ability to manage relationships and develop partnerships and advance advocacy agendas;
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities and to work collaboratively across teams and departments;
- Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in international relations, policy and advocacy, media or related fields. A master’s degree is a plus;
- 4+ years of experience in policy and advocacy, media, account management, or related roles.

At RNW Media, we offer a competitive Compensation & Benefits package. This position falls within salary scale 8 (€3,500 – €4,964), with the exact salary dependent on a range of factors, including your experience, expertise, and alignment with organizational benchmarks and peer roles within RNW Media.
This is a maternity leave coverage, 7 month contract.
