RNW Media is an international digital media organisation, working for social change. We believe in a world in which young people, in all their diversity, confidently claim their rights, assume their place in society and drive social change.

Our mission is to accelerate the impact of changemakers by co-creating youth-centred digital media solutions built on data insights and mutual learning experiences. We work with those who, like us, want to unleash the potential of young people aged 15 to 30, using the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) relevant to young people as our compass.  We work in countries where the human rights of young people are under threat. Connecting with young people through digital media is instrumental in our approach to achieving sustainable, inclusive, and stable societies by 2030.

We are proud to have 75 years of experience in the media sector, over 50 years as a training centre and more than 10 years working for impact.

 

We are looking for a Digital Community Engagement Intern 

In a challenging, international and dynamic environment 

36 hours/week, starting asap 

 

Purpose of the internship

We are in the process of developing a digital infrastructure for The Vine, including a dedicated landing page on website, and a WhatsApp Community. Join our team and contribute to developing and maintaining the platforms for the Vine. You will have the opportunity to work with top digital media experts and lead and execute creative digital initiatives. The ideal candidate will assist thematic experts, support community growth, and drive meaningful engagement through content creation, marketing activities, and research initiatives. 

The Vine 

The Vine, powered by RNW Media, is a global community dedicated to fostering media partnerships and movement-building. Comprising 25 public interest and independent media members, 80 media trainers and experts, and a network of over 6,000 alumni worldwide, The Vine is committed to empowering media stakeholders to drive sustainable development. 

To support SDG 17 (Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development), the primary objective of The Vine is to build a movement led by the Global South public media organisations and media makers that bolsters media viability, ensuring that the rights to access information and freedom of expression are upheld. The Vine fosters a strong sense of belonging and ownership among its members by creating a collaborative community where digital media topics relevant to its members take center stage. 

 

You will be contributing to:  

 Community Management & Engagement 

  • Assist thematic experts in setting up and organizing the WhatsApp community. 
  • Support the user’s onboarding process from landing page to community groups.   
  • Develop moderation and engagement guidelines, and best practices to ensure a positive and inclusive community environment. 
  • Monitor and moderate the WhatsApp groups to maintain active, respectful, and meaningful conversations. 
  • Plan and execute activities within the WhatsApp community to increase engagement and drive member interaction. 
  • Regularly respond to member inquiries and facilitate discussions to foster a sense of belonging. 

Content Production & Dissemination 

  • Create and curate engaging content tailored to different audiences, including text, images, videos, and links for Whatsapp and landing page.  
  • Schedule and disseminate content updates in WhatsApp groups, ensuring consistency and relevance. 
  • Collaborate with thematic experts to develop content that aligns with the interests and needs of community members. 

Marketing Campaigns & Community Activities 

  • Assist in the planning and execution of marketing campaigns, and special events to drive members growth and raise awareness to relevant stakeholders. 

Research & Advocacy 

  • Assist in regular research activities within the WhatsApp community to gather insights on member interests and challenges. 
  • Use collected data to develop positioning papers and reports for external communication and advocacy efforts. 
  • Leverage research outcomes to support The Vine’s advocacy initiatives and partnerships. 

Analytics & Reporting 

  • Track community growth metrics, engagement levels, and content performance using analytics tools. 
  • Prepare regular reports on WhatsApp community activities, providing insights and recommendations for improvement. 
  • Identify opportunities to expand The Vine’s reach and influence through digital platforms.
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of the website landing page of the Vine if it is needed.

 

Knowledge & Experience

  • Currently enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, a Bachelor’s program in Journalism & Communications, Digital Marketing, Digital Media, or a related field;
  • Strong interest in community management, digital marketing, and social media engagement; 
  • Strong interest in media development and human rights topics, such as media freedom, media viability, freedom of expression, rights to access to information, information and media integrity, gender and migration etc;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong multitasking abilities;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment; 
  • Knowledge of content creation or editing tools (i.e. Canva);
  • Proficiency in research and data analysis is an advantage;
  • Knowledge of CRM systems is a plus.

  • You become part of a young and multi-cultural team of highly skilled professionals representing several countries. You will be working hybrid from home and from our office de Koepel in Haarlem. 
  • We are a flexible project-based centre of expertise where you work in multidisciplinary teams. We have an informal and flexible work structure that emphasises wellbeing as much as it does quality of work
